What drives you? A genuine passion for environmental conservation stemming from a love for nature and its wildlife from a very young age. In high school, I made sure I was involved in conservation efforts and that passion for the environment translated through my field of study and later, my professional life. I believe in the necessity of bringing climate action and sustainability to the forefront of global conversation as it is now our responsibility as generation to ensure the longevity of our planet.
What projects do you work on that you love or are most passionate about and why? I enjoyed working on projects that address environmental and social sustainability. For example, conducting environment and health impact analyses prior to revamping several geographical locations into tourist areas, which in turn created new job opportunities and revenue generation sources to the local community. I would now like to work and learn more on decarbonisation projects, carbon accounting along with sustainable building designs and retrofit as I believe that addressing these issues are fundamental in mitigating the current crisis.
Career highlight/game changing project/something that made a big impact: The most impactful experience I was involved in was working as an intern sustainability Advisor for the Governor of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. In my role I was able to influence the policy making and planning initiatives of the council by aligning its sustainability strategy to the UN Sustainable Development framework.
