What drives you? Like many I see climate change as the critical issue facing our generation and those to come. When my children and future generations ask me what I did to help mitigate climate change, I want to be able to look them in the eye and say; ‘I dedicated my career to it, I did my very best to have a positive impact for the earth and its people.
What projects do you work on that you love or are most passionate about and why? I love working on transformational projects that reduce emissions at scale, particularly in the industrial space where change is sometimes difficult but absolutely necessary.
Career highlight/game changing project/something that made a big impact: One of my favourite recent projects is the MSM Milling Bioenergy Project, underpinned by a ‘wood waste powered’ industrial scale boiler, replacing fossil fuel powered technology. I worked closely with the owner Bob MacSmith and my colleagues for over two years to secure a multi-million dollar ARENA grant, then register an Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) which allowed the project to create Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). This project ticked all the boxes, government support for emerging renewable technology, jobs for the regions, new revenue stream from offsetting and importantly, saving around 200,000tCO2-e over the project life – equivalent to more than 1,000 household’s annual emissions.
