Achieving Climate Active Certification and the carbon netural journey as part of an overarching goal to carbon neutrality by 2022
The journey to carbon neutral for one of Australia's large freight and logistics brokers
Freight People is a trusted, technology driven, freight and logistics broker, offering freight management services around Australia. Climate change is extremely important to Freight People and understanding that transport is one of the top three global contributors to climate change, was the catalyst for their 2020 commitment to be carbon neutral by 2022.
Freight People engaged Ndevr Environmental to assist them in obtaining Stage 1 of their journey, Climate Active carbon neutral certification for their organisation. We also commenced Stage 2. which was to develop an introductory scoping study on the best approach to understand carbon neutral freight across their supply chain network.
We managed the carbon neutral process including: calculation of the emissions boundary and base year reporting; identifying key data sources to establish a complete dataset; calculating the carbon footprint; identifying emission reduction strategies; developing an offset strategy with costs and submitting to Climate Active. Freight People were successfully certified as a carbon neutral organisation in August 2021.
The scoping study formed an initial phase of Stage 2 of their overarching goal to carbon neutrality by 2022 and focused on how to understand the hundreds of thousands of freight movements Freight People facilitate every year.
The study highlighted the challenges in data acquisition and integrity they will need to take into account to understand, accurately measure and report on their supply chain partners emissions in the next phase of their carbon neutral journey. Management are continuously working towards this goal with their customers and suppliers are ready to share the data and make the required changes to achieve this target.
